Tips Selecting Photographs:

The characteristics of your photos make a great difference in the outcome of our paintings. Professional photos are a safe choice. Quality amateur photos which meet the criteria below will produce fine results.

In sharp focus with minimum head size of one and one half inches, measured from top of head to bottom of chin.
Properly lighted subject.
Hair should be light enough to tell how it's combed.
Distinction between pupil and iris of eye should be clear and color of eyes apparent.
Photo should not be too light or washed out by direct flash or sunlight. Side lighting gives the best results.
A natural pose is a three quarter view with the subject making eye contact with the camera lens.
Watch for glare off eyeglass lenses. Glasses should sit on bridge of nose.
Photos must be in color.
Polaroid shots are not recommended.

I will be happy to evaluate your photos for suitability. All photos sent for evaluation will be returned to sender in their original condition. However I do not accept any liability for damage or loss incurred in shipping. I will also evaluate scans of your photos sent to me via e-mail in .gif or .jpg file format provided they do not exceed 1 megabyte in size.

Checklist for Portraits

Specify a size.
Select a good photo of subject(s)
Indicate pictorial elements to be included.
Specify additional subject(s) for group portrait. Two figures, for example, can be combined from separate photos, but age and condition of photos should not conflict, and the photos should be of comparable quality.
